Stand up, write the soundtrack for your life
It doesn't happen to you, you happen to life
It doesn't happen to you, you happen to life
So Bright by Superchick
Young girls are bombarded with sexualized images assaulting their self-esteem. Role models that both adults and children agree on can be hard to find. They do exist and two great ones can be found in the popular band, Superchick.Melissa Brock, guitarist and backing vocalist, states, “One thing is for sure - we live in a society that likes the dramatic and unfortunately that is not always positive. The women we see on TV and in news stands are usually beaten down, burned out, or air brushed and unrealistic. What we need to do as strong, individual women is set the example for the younger women in our lives. Give them the role models they need. Take them under our wings and show them how to be amazing, beautiful, strong and independent Godly women. If we don’t take the responsibility to be role models then the media will misguide them. Who do you want the daughters, sisters, nieces, friends and younger women in your life looking up to? The choice is ours to make.”
She and her sister, lead singer, Tricia, encourage girls of all ages not to let society define them. Superchick’s music has been used in movies, such as Legally Blonde and Zoom and ABC’s hit television series, Brothers and Sisters. Their lyrics put a bold, yet fun positive twist on standing up for yourself and what you believe in. A young girl does not have to let a male or fashion determine who she is.
